Software for Writers

There is some really nifty software for writers out there. Whether you're looking for idea generators, bespoke wordprocessors, submission trackers or planning and plotting software, there's something for you. Some of it's free - or donationware, some of it you pay for, but all the writers' software listed here is worth a second look.

Submission Tracking Software

You can track by either title or market, keep records of dates sent and result as well as record amounts paid. Free software that does the job effectively and is easy to use
Wordprocessors
A slimline wordprocessor specifically designed for writers. Novels, articles, short stories, screenplays and plays can all be formatted automatically and arranged logically. It will even print out your cover sheet. Best bit? It's free.

Great novel writing software that allows you to plot, plan, organise and write your novel. Free software.

Tony Buzan's mindmapping software. The original and the best. I use this personally and find it really easy and intuitive.

Creative ideas generated whenever you need or want them. Built in workpad allows you to write immediately with no need to open your usual wordprocessor. Great for rapid writing, freewriting and story idea gathering. Has both free and paid versions.
